The Queensland Government says that if you have been diagnosed with a health condition, you’ll be able to apply for a Queensland Health Card (QHC) for up to two years from the date you’ve been diagnosed.
Health card applications can be made online or by phone.
QHC cards are issued by the Queensland Health Board and are valid for two years.
If you’ve previously had a health issue, you can apply for one, too.
“If you’ve had a condition that hasn’t been treated, you don’t need to apply again,” Health Minister David Littlejohn said.
“You can apply again for the same type of health card.”
QHC applications are being accepted from October 10 until October 24.
If the QHC application is approved, you will be able access a range of services including prescription drug benefits, medical tests, and access to health care and hospital care.
“We’ve got a very good network of health services across Queensland and we’ve got the opportunity to expand the network,” Mr Littlejohn told the ABC.
“There are people who’ve got medical conditions that are in some circumstances, we’ve seen cases of people having complications with their medical conditions and having that hospitalised and then they can get care in a community setting and they can receive some support.”
He said that in many cases, people would be able get a QHC card within two to three years of the diagnosis.
“They don’t have to wait for a medical card to be issued, they can be issued within two or three years,” Mr Smalljohn said, adding that there were also plans to extend the card to people with disabilities.
“People with disabilities have a right to access medical care.”
QCB application process: What you need to know for QHCs application process In addition to obtaining a Queensland health card, you also need to get your Queensland ID number, and have your fingerprints and photograph taken.
You can get this information from a Queensland ID card vendor, which can be obtained by calling 1-800-227-0053.
You must also register for the Queensland ID Card Service online or through the QCB.
You will need to pay a fee to register for Queensland ID cards online, which is $20.
The Queensland Health Insurance Scheme (QHIS) can also provide you with information about the Queensland QHC Card, and is open to people over the age of 18.
“The Queensland QHIS website has information on how to apply online, get your application, how to pay your application and how to get a card if you need one,” Mr Laughlin said.
QHISE has set up a QHIC Card portal, which provides more information about health care benefits.
QHB cards can be used for a range in the QHICS.
